Rail Flaw Ultrasonic Inspection Hi-Rail Truck
The Ford F-350 is equipped with Rail Technology International Ltd. accessories for detecting internal defects in railway rails. The ultrasonic system enables inspection of every millimeter of the rail cross-section using rotating wheel probes and modern intelligent on-board computer software. Video cameras are used to monitor the visual profile of the rail head and sides. All ultrasonic device and camera recordings are stored digitally and linked to track kilometers, GPS position, and railway line designations specified by the client. The vehicle features a 4x4 drive scheme ensuring better passability in winter conditions both on rails and public roads. In addition to the crew cab, a van body is installed at the rear housing various accessories, a water tank required for probe operation, and spare parts. The ultrasonic equipment and hi-rail gear are electrically operated directly from the driver workstation. The electro-hydraulic system enables quick deployment onto the tracks and removal. When driving on rails, braking and traction are applied through the road wheels, with the load distributed proportionally between the road and rail guide wheels. For safety, video cameras covering both front and rear views assist when setting the vehicle on the rails and while driving.
